What to Expect


For First Appointments

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. 
  • Please bring a photo identification card.
  • The current copy of your insurance card and any prescribed medications that you are currently taking.
  • Upon arrival, please sit in our waiting room.

If we are not in your insurance network, you may be able to utilize your out-of-network benefits or pay out of pocket. You may file with your insurance to use your out-of-network benefits; however, Brighter Horizons Psychological Services, PLLC cannot guarantee reimbursement.

Payment is expected prior to services being provided.

Cancellation

Your time and commitment to self-improvement is important to us.  When your appointment is scheduled that time is reserved for you to meet with our clinical staff. We do not double book appointments. Your time is scheduled for you and no other person. To reserve your time, we require a credit card on file. 

A minimum of five (5) business days notice is required for rescheduling or cancelling assessment appointments and two (2) business days for therapy appointments.

We have a $50.00 late cancellation and "no show" fee for the first missed appointment. Professional time will be billed at the full fee of the missed appointment. It is unlikely that insurance companies will reimburse for any fees charged for missed appointments.  Charges are assessed as we are unable to schedule another person in your missed appointment.

This cancellation policy does not apply to appointments scheduled by NC Disability Determination  Services 

Location

Brighter Horizons Psychological Services, PLLC is located in Gastonia, NC in the Union Commons Professional  Complex.  We are located in the back of building 1554 in Suite B. 

First Appointment

You will be asked to complete forms and a brief questionnaire that includes information about your current situation and any concerns. While meeting with our licensed staff, a clinical and functional face-to-face evaluation of the referred client's mental health, socio-developmental history, and current needs will be assessed. This assessment will provide a possible diagnostic justification for services and recommendations for treatment, if appropriate.

Confidentiality

Most information discussed in the context of therapy/ evaluation is consideredand will not be shared with anyone else without permission from the client. However, there are exceptions. 1) We may release confidential information with the consent of the patient or a legally authorized individual. 2) We may release confidential information upon receipt of an order by a court of law. 3) We may release information necessary for the continued treatment of a patient. 4) We may  reveal confidential information in order to comply with mandatory reporting statutes/ laws (e.g. child abuse, elderly abuse). 5) We have a duty to protect if clients pose a threat or harm to others or themselves.
